Why I dislike Christmas

1. Guilt

When you get a gift from grandma and she says; “If you don’t like it, I can return it.” but you just don’t have the heart to tell her so.

You feel any amount of guilt when someone buys you a gift and you didn’t get them anything in return.  Why can’t people just buy gifts for themselves?  One can argue that it’s the thought that counts, but let’s be honest; there typically isn’t much thought anymore — especially not when one bluntly asks you what you would like for Christmas.

Gift cards are a perfect example of a thoughtless gift.  Presenting a gift card to someone is essentially saying: “Here’s twenty dollars, but you can only spend it at [store name here].”. However, you don’t want anything from said store.  And of course they’re not redeemable for cash.  But even if they were, it would just be a pain in the ass for the recipient to go out of their way to make an exchange.  Don’t buy gift cards.

2.  Decorations

I have to say that some of the decorations do look nice and can be appreciated.  And despite this poor economy, people still choose to go out of their way by buying LED’s they got for 50% off at K Mart to waste any amount of time decorating their home inside and out.

Who want’s to help decorate the tree?  Not me – so you can’t ask me to help take it down mid-January.  What’s the point, though?  There is no practical purpose of a Christmas tree, really. People argue that it looks nice, so I must not be on the same page as them — I just don’t see why we need to put a tree in the corner of our living room so that we can put presents underneath it.

3. Music

It is not okay to be hearing Christmas music at any period in November.  Case closed.
